Pre-Camp Freedom Event

In partnership with the Michigan DNR, the Detroit Public Library and the Detroit River Project proudly presents Shonda Buchanan, author of Black Indian at a free pre-camp event that will feature authors, cultural experts and kid’s activities.

When: February 15, 2020.

Time:12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Where: Detroit Skillman Public Library

This is a pre-camp event that is part of the summer international heritage camp, which occurs in July and is focused on the history of the Detroit River and the great cultures that thrived off of it. The summer camp features educational and creative activities for youth. This camp is under the direction of The Detroit River Project led by author and historian, Kimberly Simmons. In February, come and learn more about the Native American and African-American traditions of the Detroit River. Kimberly Simmons, author of "To the River" and "A Fluid Frontier" will discuss how the Detroit River has always been a focal point along the road to freedom.

This discussion will focus on romance and building healthy fulfilling relationships, that will feature tips on healthy eating and living, we read stories that spin tales of love, lust and happily forever after, however when the reality of life hits, washboard perfect abs, that rich bank account, nice car or that fabulous life may not be able to keep up the fire in a relationship. Learn how to have a healthy relationship, appropriate boundaries and find out what it means to have a true covenant relationship. If you’re struggling to find the right one come and learn what questions you should be asking to help you find him or her.
